Al Jubail Trophy
Saturday 11th April 2009
The Al Jubail trophy was played with great gusto by the participants even though with black clouds gathering above. Nevertheless, the clouds were blown away leading to some hot spells. There were seven flights with equal number of participants of orange (Asians) and reds (Arabs) even though there were a few that turned up in other colours.....
As usual, the President "changed" the rules prior to tee off as there was no one that understood the rules that were laid down by Dom (Dom, you need to be around next time....;)
The new rules entailed that the match was between the two teams based on stroke play with handicaps confirmed by Tuan President himself that morning and the winning team based on net total score.
Below are the scores of the various flights.
Flight 1
Red - Ali Sajut + Hj Drahman : 172
Orange - Then + Bojeng : 156
Flight 2
Red -Surya + Tang : 155
Orang - Othman + Hj Wahap : 174
Flight 3
Red - Yusuf + Shaiful : 163
Orang - Chong + Wan Azilah : 151
Flight 4
Red - Azahari + Yatim : 157
Orange : Syed Zul + Julai : 169
Flight 5
Red - Feisol + Sha : 155
Orange - Benny + Kassim : 154
Flight 6
Red - Yusri + Amno : 152
Orange - Hj Ahmad + Syed Rosdy : 143
Flight 7
Red - Capt Siva + Hj Ibrahim : 166
Orange - James Lau + Roslan : 168
Total : Red : 1120
Orange : 1115
With the Orange team (Asians) winning by a margin of 5 strokes.
Ali Sajut who is a bit rusty unfortunately lost to all and had to give one Srixon ball to each of the other participants which he sportingly did. Good try Ali ! We will see you on your next trip.
The winning team also had share of the spoils after deduction expenses.
The 2008 Trophy was also given away to Hj Ibrahim who won the trophy donated by Dato Aziz outright. Members should note that no points were given for the Al Jubail trophy competition.

What is your best ever score ?
95 at H/cap 25 (Won few Shell tournament after that became chicak)
What is your most memorable golfing incident ?
During tee-off @hole#9 when my ball faded away to the right and made heavy landing on top a Pajero. The driver, a Bruneian, drove the car adjacent to the tee-box and made no remark but starring at me.
Can share your most disappointing golfing incident ?
Failed during handicap asessment despite perfect tee-off @ hole#10. Reason of failure because I didn't declare the ball . I was not the only one there was also another guy..!!!Not to mention here…
The best course that you have played at and why ?
Mt. Kinablu Golf Club (Kundasang). Scenic and cool
Your favourite hole in KGM and why ?
Hole#3. Worst case, if the drive fades won't reach the road and hook just borrow the other fairway
Your least favourite hole in KGM and why ?
Hole#4. If the ball fades likely to hit the road. Considered lucky! Or else break someone's car screen. Hook the ball means going for a dive in the pool.
Your dream foursome ?

Your golfing ambition, if any ?
To be a 'legal' President of any golf club
Your dream golfing destination ?

January 2009 Monthly Medal
The January Monthly Medal was held at KGM on the 17th January with 10 flights in competition. A major concern that the committee had was whether the weather would hold. It was very fortunate that the weather stayed dry from late morning Friday and enabled the water/soggy fairways to dissipate a bit. And the weather on Saturday 17th Jan was execellent but with strong wind which either helped or caused some wayward shots. The competition proceded on system 36 stableford, a decision that was made prior to tee off.
The monthly medal ended with an evening of dinner and song at the Broadway Lounge, Grand Palace hotel and the prize giving.
Winners
1. Kassim Assan
2. Azahari Osman
3. Mohd Anuar Taib
4. Surya Hidayat
5. Yusop Sahari*
6. Sharudin Rahim*
* Do note that original winner for position (5) has to be ommited on a technicality resulting in Yusop moving to position (5) and Sha getting position (6).

Farewell for Dato' Aziz cum Raya Special Golf
It was one of the memorable moments to bid farewell to Dato' Aziz who brought along fine weather all the way from Kuching.
Odd number had forced the format of play from scramble to stroke play. However, the game ended successfully and the members were feted to a delightful dinner at Hotel Grand Palace. Finished with par golf of 72 net against his compatriots, Hj. Ibrahim Hj. Dawok, won the section A championship. Followed by Then V.T who clinched a 2nd position carded 74 net. Travelling all the way from Brunei betting for his luck, Roland Lee, won 3rd place scored a net of 75 proved worth the trouble.
Indulged by good weather, couples of Buayas (alligators) were happily lurking around the fairways and greens finally found their victims. For the first time joining KPMGA, Kevin Reginald, legally speaking showed a stunning start by carding 73 net to be crowned as a champion of section B. Meanwhile Wan Mohd. Azilah with his ever sharpened teeth fought hard against his opponent K.J. Choi, to win on OCB both of whom finished with 78 above par. Congratulation folks..!!!
Those moments were captured in Yusof's Public gallery below.
