Asian Tour to Sabah (1st - 3rd June 2008)

The KPMGA hard-core led by its President accompanied by BJ Sink, Ali Nippon, Abdul Gani, Then Jaidee and Edmund (Yusof) nominated themselves for the ‘Asian tour to Sabah’. The tournament was played three straight days from 1st to 3rd June (during Gawai Festival). Big cash prizes were put up for grab to individual and teams (young Vs. not so young).
Seriously, it was a grueling and fierce battle started at Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club, which is located within Tuaran about 35 km from Kota Kinabalu with the magnificent sight of Mount Kinabalu in the background.
The group then conquered Mt. Kinabalu (Kundasang) highest altitude golf course in South East Asia perched 5,000 ft above sea level at the foothill of the majestic Mount Kinabalu, the journey of which took about two hours drive from the city. An 18-hole layout with spectacular view of Mt. Kinabalu, surrounding farmlands of Kundasang and Kota Kinabalu - such an experience of cool highlands golfing with its unpredictable weather!
Finally, the fight ensued at Borneo Golf and Country Club in Bongawan. No golfing in Sabah is complete without a round or two at this prestigious and exquisite Jack Nicklaus signature golf course. Located within the tourist belt of the Papar-Beaufort Districts, 69 km from Kota Kinabalu an hour drive. Undoubtedly, the natural lagoon dramatized the effect of water carries on most holes on the second nine.
A very enjoyable away game lots of challenges on the courses and weather. So, who are the winners of this competitive tournament? Then jaidee appointed as an official to count the scores at K.K airport before departing to Miri. All eyes on the 'score board', potential winners and winning team started to count how much they would receive from the pool. Possible names began to appear and everybody was anxious. Believe it or not, BJ Sink could not produce the card that had Abdul Gani and his name. Commotions and hoo-hah going around. The result of tournament could not be decided in the absence of the two scores. The decision came in a dramatic end when Mr. President declared the result of the three-day tournament ‘null and void’.
Morale of the story: Never treat score card lightly and must be kept secured. It must be duly signed by parties involved and produced on time.

Farewell for Dato' Aziz cum Raya Special Golf
It was one of the memorable moments to bid farewell to Dato' Aziz who brought along fine weather all the way from Kuching.
Odd number had forced the format of play from scramble to stroke play. However, the game ended successfully and the members were feted to a delightful dinner at Hotel Grand Palace. Finished with par golf of 72 net against his compatriots, Hj. Ibrahim Hj. Dawok, won the section A championship. Followed by Then V.T who clinched a 2nd position carded 74 net. Travelling all the way from Brunei betting for his luck, Roland Lee, won 3rd place scored a net of 75 proved worth the trouble.
Indulged by good weather, couples of Buayas (alligators) were happily lurking around the fairways and greens finally found their victims. For the first time joining KPMGA, Kevin Reginald, legally speaking showed a stunning start by carding 73 net to be crowned as a champion of section B. Meanwhile Wan Mohd. Azilah with his ever sharpened teeth fought hard against his opponent K.J. Choi, to win on OCB both of whom finished with 78 above par. Congratulation folks..!!!
